Aroma is smooth malts, molasses, some pine, brown sugar, spice and nutmeg, and yeast. Pours with large frothy off-white head with a muddy particle filled brown body. Beautiful. Taste isn’t quite on par with the regular, but taste mouthfeel and palate are awsome. Some alcohol on the finish. Not as good as the regular but very very good.

Hazy dark amber with beige head. Strong alcohol notes in the aroma along with sweet malt, overripe fruits and yeast. Sweet complex flavor with dominant alcohol note, malt and fruits. Good candidate for aging.

750 mL bottle from Bieropholie, shared with the family, served cool in a wine goblet. DE 24/07.

App.: Really cloudy, light cola (brown/orange), medium-light tan head. Aroma: Lots of dark dried fruits, vanilla, a bit of wood, a hint of alcohol, rich and sweet, apples and cherries, brown sugar and a little molasses, some warm spices. Palate: Medium carbonation, fairly soft effervescence. Flav.: Musty fruits, dried fruits, light woody funk, light spices, a bit of yeast and dough, a touch of banana esters; fairly sweet, a little warming alcohol (though not 10%-worth).

Reminds me of a strong dunkelweizen or eisbock. Not sure it was worth $20, even with the purdy bottle and sleeve.

Bottled, consumed on 01/02/08. Bottle marked "best before 10/10/11". Kept it at room temp for four months after purchase. First beer of the new year! A molasses brown pour yields a large pillowy head that sticks around a long time. Lively carbonation. Aroma is sweet and alcoholic with a nasty metal note: think of scrubbing a stainless steel sink with an SOS pad. Thick in the mouth with caramel flavor, a small bit of sweetness, warm spice and hot pepper and a not-overwhleming astringency. Warming as it goes down. Alcohol flavor well-masked: deadly in an 11% beer! It is substantial, however, and not a gulper. I think the standard St. Bernardus Abt 12 might be a little tastier than this one. If it weren’t for that awful aroma, I’m sure I would have rated it a 4.

Bottle--Leftover rating I just found today. Dark brown coloring with a rather large head. The aroma was malty with dry fruits. The taste was wonderful with some caramel flavoring. A decent amount of carbonation was present. Produce place

Dark brown colored pour with medium sized head. Sweet caramel, fruity nose with hints of chocolate. Malty, sweet finish. It was good, but I expected this to be better. I’ll age the other bottles I have to see if it gets better.

Rating #400...had this bottle in my cellar for a year and decided that it would be a good mile stone beer. Pours a mohagany color into the trappist glass with a huge fluffy off-white head. Sticky rings of lacing clug to the glass. Smelling this quad brought notes of raisins, dried dark fruit, malt, yeast, vanilla and chocolate. A creamy mouthfeel provided flavors of ginger, plums, chocalate cake, citurs and some peppery spice. Finishes strong with a noticeable alcohol burn. Very complex and satisfying beer indeed.

crappy notes from a not well put-together quad tasting...bottle.... appearance: dark brown with the lightest brown fluffy head ....aroma: an abundance of dark fruit and sweet malt .....taste: lots of darkfruit, creamy mouthfeel, lots of lingering dark fruit.
