| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 22, 2007 Beautiful chestnut colored beer, lasting beige head; Big pleasant balanced nose with lots of great aromas with sweet chestnut cream sticking out; Big soft carbonation in big soft body that is a bit to sweet; Lots of powerful aromas in finish, again lots of chestnut, very sweet and slightly bitter. Not as elegant and balanced as the "normal" version. thornecb (1813), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 19, 2007 Pours deep amber into a trappist glass. Fluffy medium head with excellent retention leaves no lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Dark rum and pit fruit aromas. Dry and spicy caramel with a lasting buttered rum raisin finish. Taste is more like a Belgian dark than the regular Abt 12. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

Sweet Malt, Dry Bread Notes, Raisins, Dried Fruit...Yeasty. Dry Spiced Yeast Aftertaste. Smooth for the Alcohol. Peppery Spice Stays With You. More Carbonation Then I Would Like but a Solid Belgian. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 11, 2007 Abt. 12 is one of my favoruite beers. I should A/B the regular version sometime with the Special Edition while I have a chance. I recall some vanilla, raisins, spices, lots of sweet fig, and a dark malty character. St. Bernardus is just plain awesome. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2007 Updated: Sep 23, 2007A disappointment - much rather prefer the normal 12. - Aroma was my favorite part...similar in taste but a bit less going on and a palate that fades very quickly upon swallow. Spend your dough on the regular abt 12! hapjydeuce (773), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2007 I was definitely expecting more out of this brew, when compared to the regular bottled Abt 12. Very nice appearance, dark hazy bronze with a nicely-sized head that lasted a while. Aroma was sweet and fruity. However, I was disappointed with the taste, I felt like the change in hops profile degraded this beer a bit from the regular 12. Strange finish on the palate because of this. Me and jarspag sampled this one right after a bottle of Gulden Draak, and I can say I appreciated the former a bit more. Lots of plum, licorice, pear and breadish malts in the flavor, but the finish is what didnt quite do it for me. Definitely worth a try though. I am aging another bottle for a few more months, maybe it will mature nicely and I can re-rate at that time. peterstrongale (43), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2007 Warm brown coloured beer with big light beige coloured head on top. Aroma is nice and malty with some vinous accents too. Smell is very bready and very close to most of the trappists. Taste is full, rich, generous and slight fruity. Afthertaste is soft, malty and bready. It ends with an interesting bitter touch of hops.
