Violets, licorice, rose, mid chocolate, mild herbs in the aroma with stewed prunes in the background. Mild malt splashed with berries, mild stewed fruit. Light herbs and licorice linger through the finish and linger. Smooth and full. MullMan (1083), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 28, 2006 light tan creamy head, darkish ruby amber color. aroma is raisins sauteed in butter, bready caramel malt. flavor is sweet rummy and bready malt, sort of hot and stronger than the regular 12. dry heat finish. aroma better than the flavor but still great! thanks Joeec5!! tronraner (1932), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2006 750 mL bottle. Pours dark cloudy amber with persistant, big ivory head. The aroma is spicy with zest, licorice, corriander, anise, cinnamon, and some caramel and raisin. The first thing I notice is the fuzzy mouthfeel. Then the flavor: bitter chocolate, oak, slightly bitter earthiness, lots of fruity esters. It has a nice strong flavor, but it seems to throw it out of balance a bit. I prefer the regular St. Bernardus 12. TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 26, 2006 Dark brown pour with nutty, banana, malty, yeasty aroma. Lively palate with light banana and citrus notes. Not quite as flavorful as the NOT special edition IMHO. marcus (1878), Sacramento, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 26, 2006 This dark brown ale poured with a massive tan head, eliciting a malty spice aroma. The taste is similar to the standard (but superb) Abt 12. However, it is much spicier, and the tangy Poperinge hops are very evident. NachlamSie (1643), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Bottle. Pours a very dark opaque red, but not quite black/red. The brew sports a very tall, extremely frothy head. The nose is juicy with plenty of spiced notes: licorice, tart berries, cloves, noticeable alcohol, a general pungent spiced character. The mouthfeel is medium heavy with flavors of bubblegum, cloves, banana, thin cacao. The brew is quite warming. All in all, it’s not as subtle or soft as the normal Bernardus 12 but it’s not aggressive in a manner that is necessarily an improvement. Regardless, it’s a decent brew. Nose of spicy malt with cloves and raisns; transparent brown with a huge beige head; medium body with the flavor of caramel, spices, and dark fruit. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany body with a large frothy yellow-brown head. The aroma is great - lots of malt, caramel toasty bread, dark fruit like plum and also some oranges. Tastes very rich - caramel stickiness and plum in a smooth coating body. Dry finish.
