Jan 27, 2009 Pours nice brown hazy with medium head, delicate fruity aroma with some vanilla, flavors are more balanced and delicate from the original 12 with some marmalade, some creamy flavors, some clove and good acidity but the alcohole is too chemical, after several minutes when it warms up flavors are better and some saltiness can be sensed.

Jan 17, 2009 Bottle shared by the Captain. A dark red pour with tons of off white head. Good carbonation. Taste of vanilla and flowers. A little too sweet for my taste but very good. Pretty sure I like the regular St. Bernardus a little more but not by much.

Jan 11, 2009 (750 ml bottle (best by "02/05/11") via trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Daniel!, cellared for 1 yr. after trade) Pours dark rubyish brown with two fingers of soft but sturdy and level tan head that recede to a thin layer that is well-retained. Sweetish aroma of red wine, brown sugar, dark fruits and chocolate. Mouthfeel is soft, buttery and silky. Perfect amount of heft for the style. Very nice well-defined and sturdy light weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is a beautiful blend of chocolate and light red wine, brown sugar, sweet dark fruits and light yeastiness. Some dark caramel even emerges in warmer samples. ABV very well-covered. Lovely stuff.

Jan 7, 2009 750ml bottle consumed about 2.5 years old on 1/6/08. Pours a deep brown with lots of layers of light shining through. Big head of white foam and lace all over the glass. Aroma is very rich malts with just a touch of spiciness. The flavor is really quite impressive in its complexity. The rich sweet malts are obvious, but there is also a nice spiciness and a light tartness like raisins or grapes. The body is really smooth and easy to drink. Unfortunately after only my first half glass I’m buzzed. Wow.

Jan 6, 2009 Special Ed on New Years to top off the Devonshire Knights New Years tasting. Excellent! What a great ale to end a great evening. Popped the cork, Dark pour with a pleasant rich aroma. Smooth on the pallet with even carbonation, great looking foam tan head and well rounded body. Delicious and well worth the wait.
