Dark brown-amber color with a frothy tan head that displays great retention along with some sticky lace. Hazy yeasty body, but still sort of light for the style. Aroma is alcohol soaked dates and raisins. Flavor is fruitcakey, with fig, date, spiced sweetbread, caramel, phenols. Quite sweet but it does a good job of covering the hefty 11% abv. Body and carbonation are excellent and appropriate, which is expected from St Bernardus. Maverick34 (716), New York, USA

Yeast, fruit, malts etc - just about as awesome as one would expect from these guys/this type. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 22, 2008 A lot going on here...dried fruits like raisins and dates, very rich roasted malts, caramel/toffee/molasses, light hop bite, big alcohol (well hidden!), and a really nice spicy yeastiness underneath everything else...Excellent! dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of dough, bread, nuttiness, sweet honey, some plum. Flavor follows, always pleasantly sweet. Still excellent stuff, just seemed to lack the dancing fruit notes that the regular 12 has in addition to the more earthy tones that were still present here. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Bottle broken out to celebrate the end of my midterms! Pours a murky brown with a nice thick tan head. Aroma of alcohol, apple skins, sweet dark fruits and bready yeast. Flavor of soda, light and dark fruits, and lots of bready yeast. Not as spicy or full of pep as the regular Abt 12, this one is much more mellow (which may be due to the age). It wears as you drink, especially as the beer warms, and gets a little acidic. Good but not "special" and the regular is better. drpimento (865), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA
