St. Bernardus Abt 12 Special Edition

Bottled (thanks drewbeerme!). Amber colour with particles floating around. Mediumsized beige head. Aroma is grass, parfume, some caramel, alcohol, earth and spices. Flavour is caramel, toffee and grass with some mild fruityness. Quite different from the normal Abt 12, and sadly not as good as the normal either.

Imbibed in honor of St. Bernard, For it is his day. ...... Dark Red Pour, Lasting frothy head lacing is incredible. Tart, yeasty, spicy aromas, light fruits, refreshing. Taste is incredibly complex, Raisins, Sweet Dates, Maltier than the regular version. Alcohol presence is also more noticeable. Exceptional brew.

Consumed on St. Bernard’s Day according to ecclesiastical calendar. Pours a murky dark brown with reddish tints. Aroma is spicy with brown sugar, molasses, and some yeast. Flavor is absolutely phenomenal- Lots of dark fruit and sweetness, with lots of spicy yeast. Somewhat prickly mouthfeel from the 11%, but oh so delicious. Absolutely incredible.

Quaffed on St. Bernards day- the famous abbot. Pours murky brown with one finger white head. Aroma is molasses, brown sugar, with some citrus, spicy clove yeast, and coriander. Lots of sweetness and yeast character. Flavor is outstandingly sweet and complex. Tons of brown sugar and dark fruity sweetness. Alcohol bite evident, but not in the way of any flavors. Yeast character is quite nice- clove and allspice. Palate is a little over carbonated, but still smooth and full. Outstanding.

750ml. bottle. poured a nice red/ brown, very fluffy light tan/white head. Nice aroma of dark malts, dark fruitiness as well. Very rich tasting, fruity/citrus flavor with an alcohol warming as it goes down, very good.

75 cl Bottle, the final piece of a tasting session. Dark brown beer, off white head. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits, chocolate and St.Bernardus yeast, mouldy. Flavour of dark fruits, yeast, slight hop bitterness, alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation. I prefer the standard version, nevertheless great stuff.

[1289-20080411] 750mL bottle. Minty roasted wheat fields and alcohol cleaner aroma. Murky, dark brown grey body with big long creamy bubbles. Booooozy fruity candy cane roasted malt flavour with strong heavy yeast characteristics. Full body is thick. Does not hide its alcohol and becomes heavier as it warms. (7/4/7/4/17) 3.9

[1565B-20080802] 1pt9.4floz bottle. Solid woody raisin malt aroma has steak sauce soaked bread notes. Murky, dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head. Boozy woody raisin malt flavour has heavy grains. Medium-full body. Nice. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

Deep amber brew, high sediment, exciting. Large foamy beige head very effervescent. caramel aroma, prunes and alcohol apparent. Big body, sweet caramel flavor is foremost present, alcohol burn hits immediately but in a good way, very warming. Watch out for this baby...it is very smooth and very enjoyable. The alcohol will sneak up on you.
