trevor211 (81), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 4, 2008 Wonderful stuff, and (obviously) very similar to the original Abt 12. Bottleworks put out a few more of these last week - it’s been in their cellar for more than two years, now. Pours a tad lighter than the original Abt - more of a dark, burnt caramel color. Big, frothy Belgian head. The other thing you notice right away is the amount of sediment - there’s quite a bit in there. Aroma is great - caramel, spices, figs and bananas and a bit of brandy. Flavor is much the same (let it warm, though, otherwise it won’t show well enough). Dark, roasty malts shine over a very slight hop bitterness. The malts are a it darker in this brew - more reminiscent of the notes you get from a stout - they’re even a bit smoky. It also isn’t quite as sweet, and has a bit drier mouthfeel. Absolutely wonderful, but I actually missed some of the sweetness of the original (I’m a fan of the Rochefort 10 - powerfully sweet). This one has novelty going for it, but I’m not sure I liked it quite as well as the original.

Dark REd Pour, Lasting Frothy head lacing is incredible. Tart, yeasty, spicy aromas, ligfht fruits, refreshing. Taste is incredibly complex, Raisins, Sweet DAtes, Maltier than the regular version. Alcohol presence is also more noticable. Exceptional brew. craftycarl21 (174), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 21, 2008 Consumed on St. Bernard’s Day according to ecclesiastical calendar. Pours a murky dark brown with reddish tints. Aroma is spicy with brown sugar, molasses, and some yeast. Flavor is absolutely phenomenal- Lots of dark fruit and sweetness, with lots of spicy yeast. Somewhat prickly mouthfeel from the 11%, but oh so delicious. Absolutely incredible. oteyj (313), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Aug 21, 2008 Quaffed on St. Bernards day- the famous abbot. Pours murky brown with one finger white head. Aroma is molasses, brown sugar, with some citrus, spicy clove yeast, and coriander. Lots of sweetness and yeast character. Flavor is outstandingly sweet and complex. Tons of brown sugar and dark fruity sweetness. Alcohol bite evident, but not in the way of any flavors. Yeast character is quite nice- clove and allspice. Palate is a little over carbonated, but still smooth and full. Outstanding. Hophead22 (134), Redlands, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 750ml. bottle. poured a nice red/ brown, very fluffy light tan/white head. Nice aroma of dark malts, dark fruitiness as well. Very rich tasting, fruity/citrus flavor with an alcohol warming as it goes down, very good. Borresteijn (443), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 7, 2008 75 cl Bottle, the final piece of a tasting session. Dark brown beer, off white head. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits, chocolate and St.Bernardus yeast, mouldy. Flavour of dark fruits, yeast, slight hop bitterness, alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation. I prefer the standard version, nevertheless great stuff.
