Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Murky dark brown with a creamy light tan head. Classic lacing. Bread dough, dark fruits. Vinous notes as it warms. Smooth with tip-of-the-tongue tingle. Noticeable alcohol that stays subdued; belies the muscle of this brew. Sweet and caramelly just melts away leaving a warm inner-lip buzz. A benchmark for the style.

12 BEST BASTARD RUN ! An immense beer. Dark stoutlike appearance with a frothy yeasty head typical of trappist beers of this strength. The aroma was possibly a little understated in comparison to the Rocheforts, yet the first taste equates to some of its more illustrious compatriots. Rolling the beer over the back of the throat evokes a multitude of spices; cloves, cinnamon, barbecue.. right to the end, the flavour stays and when you finally put her down you feel like you have just been hit by a juggernaut. Perfect start to a 3 week holiday

Pours an expected dark brown with thick off-white head, lots of lacing and lots of bulk and floaties to the pour. Aroma very nice of roasted malt, dried fruit, cherries, yeast, and spices. Flavor matches very well with the addition of a bit of alcohol warmth (not burn) and a bit more sweetness and tartness than I was expecting. Nice brew.

Bottle. Pours with a large off-white head and a dark brown-black body. Aroma of dried fruits and cheeries. Taste of dried fruit and cherries-like drinking afruit cake-well balanced. A warming alcholic finish.

Bottle. Pours a perfect abbott. Deep red with creamy head. Lots of esters, some banana. Taste is fruits, esters, malt, yeast.. you name it. Palate is thinner than expected, perhaps this is a young specimen. However, the thin body leads me to believe this will not benefit very much from aging. I hope I am wrong. Ends dry. Great stuff.

Bottle. City Pub. Gothenburg Beer Festival. Clody brown colour with a beige head. Aroma: Malt, spices, yeast, apples, lightly roasted. Taste: Sweet malt, alcohol, spices, yeast, apples, dark fruits, salmiak, a bit of bitterness. The alcohol is apparent with a warming finish.
