Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

On tap at the Yardhouse in SD before Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine. Beautiful dark brown in the glass. Small head quickly reduced to lace. Sweet and fruity, as well as malty, on the nose. Wonderfully balanced in the mouth. Bit of sweet, sour, malty, and alcohol. Could probably drink a couple. Yummy.

Aroma had some plums, grapes as well as a medium hop character. The head quickly dissipated , and the beer itself revealed a dark amber color when held to light. The flavor was full of caramel, apples, plums, brown sugar and almost meaty at times. Palate was very lively, but quickly faded away. Good, good, good!

Outstanding. Medium opaque brown with a hint of ruby red when held to the light. Frothy one-finger head in my Chimay chalice dissipated to a fairly solid film and left nice lacing. Aromas were all over the place, but the clearest were dark fruit like cherries and figs, brown sugar, cake-like malts, and black pepper. But there’s so much more, including cola, other dark fruits, and a bit of smokiness. The flavors followed the smell, featuring dark fruits galore. Everything on the nose is also on the tongue, but you’ll also find additional spices like cloves, and the alcohol kicks in to warm things up. Wonderful creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel, lively carbonation that dances on the tongue, and an aftertaste that settles in as the best of the ripe fruit that was up front in the flavor profile. Solid proof that God loves us.

Wow!!! I’m a die-hard hoppy IPA kinda guy, but the balance and complexity of this ale is amazing. Yeasty, dark tones, grape, banana, vanilla, toasted barley flavors. I’m not a huge fan of lighter Belgiums, but this beauty packs a punch. Die fluteges brotes (or something like that in German, the flowing bread, a bit like liquid pumpernickel bread). Buy it, and all of it.

Pours a murky chocolate brown with a tall light tan head that has great retention. Aroma is toasty malt, dark pitted fruit, raisin, molasses, light yet potent grape, caramel/candi sugar. grilled pear and apple, sweet grain, and buttered rice. Flavor is toasty grain malt, caramel, dried berries, white chocolate, toffee, and more rice.

Bottle, aged just over a year. Pours a murky mahogany with a medium white head that dissipates. Strong wine aromas, loads or dry fruit, some grape, sweet brown sugar. Sweet malts, a certain buttery-ness to it like a red wine, a little but of spice too, a faint hint of yeasty flavors late. Very complex. Mouth is warm with a good effervescence to it. Real good beer!

This beer is great. I have tried to introduce people to this beer because of its impressively soft and fruity flavor. Despite its cloudy and flakey (debris floating in my glass) appearance this beer is light smooth and great. As of now I am impressed with this beer even at its higher than average price even at the beer store.

Poured a murky dark brown color with a nice off-white head that hung around a little while. Aroma is of dark fruit, and malty sweetness. Flavor is fruity and sweet with a taste of brown sugar. Alcohol is not real evident in taste, but is warming. I don’t know what I was expecting, but this did not live up to the hype. I will admit that Quad’s are not my favorite style. Okay but honestly I have had much better.
