Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

330 mL into an Orval chalice. Pours a hazy coca-cola brown with a small tan head that settles down to a nice film. Nose is rum raisin, milk chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, along with some earthy tones. Taste is complex with some cloves, cinnamon, milk chocolate, figs, raisins, molasses, and plums among other things. Fizzy and slightly creamy on the palate. Slight warming alcohol in the dry finish. The 10.5% is superbly hidden.

Chocolate brown with medium particles and a long lasting tan head. Very sweet smell of burnt sugar and raisins, fig as well. A hint of sour at first, then burnt toffee and caramel with a burnt bitter ending. Watery and fizzy on the palate.

Beautiful torrent of chestnut rolling in a tulip glass as plummy, spicy aromas rises. Earthtone appearance with light brown head. The flavor of roasted malt comes through with hints of chocolate and caramel melt sink into formation just afterward. Very satisfying touch which well hides the high alcohol content. This is one of my favorite after dinner beers.

(bottle) pours a hazy, dark ruby-amber colour with a tall off-white head and quite a few floaties. aroma of bread and yeast, green apples, banana and caramel, cloves and cinnamon, with light alcohol and earthy notes, later some chocolate. subtle flavour of roasted malts and caramel, apples and banana, grain and light yeast, quite complex and bolstered by robust notes of alcohol. strong-bodied with smooth carbonation and a lingering, light roasted-bitter finish.

Bottle. Dark brown body with a long lasting light brown head. Raisins, prunes, lots of malt, spices and a bit alcohol in aroma. Flavour is fruity and complex with ripe fruit, chocolate, mollasses, caramel and an alcoholic touch in the finish.

Beer poors foogy deep brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is of raisin, fig, and carmel. Alcohol presence is definately detectable in aroma. Flavor is what I would hope for out of this style. Flavors are complex and are similar to the aromatics that come forward. Beer finishes nicely. This beer is great and I look forward to having it again.
