Dec 31, 2007 Consumed on New Year’s Eve 2007. Darker brown color versus the Abt 12. Yeasty bread, vanilla, orange, pear, and some cinnamon spice. A very nice complex beer. It starts out spicy, then fruity (I detect grape), and finishes with a nice bite. Very nice beer.

Dec 31, 2007 Bottle--I was thinking a dark, deep red color, but I’ll go with the other reviewers that call it mahogany. Nice foamy head with a bready aroma with a base of malts. Nice mixture of malts, sweetness and cinnamon that jump around depending on the sip. Some of the alcohol taste jumps up and dips down along the carbonation. Yum, was just perfect for our Christmas dinner.

Dec 30, 2007 Pours deep mahogany with fluffy tan head. Mose is rich with caramel and dried fruit. Flavor is complex and sweet from malt and raisin. Smooth aftertast and all around great beer.

Dec 30, 2007 (Bottle) Pours deep dark brown with reddish hints. The aroma is of spicy and fruity yeast with tones of white pepper, clove, dark fruits, pears, apricot and oranges. The nose is very sweet with hints of marzipan. The flavour is malty, yeasty, spicy and fruity. The mouthfeel is creamy and doughy. Also some hints if green grapes and a bit floral. Medium to full bodied.

Dec 30, 2007 750 ML Bottle-Deep ruby red/brown color w/a huge foamy head. Great lacing. Classic Belgian aroma. Sweet flavors of candied sugar, beets, toffee, caramel, & brown sugar. Just a touch of spice, not strong at all. Pretty good stuff which packs a wollop; alcohol is well hidden. Not as good as the 12 but very drinkable. Cool brew to pull out w/friends @ Christmas; even the non beer geeks will enjoy it & the happy monk puts everyone in a holiday mood!

Dec 29, 2007 This Belgian Strong Ale pours a muddy deep brown color from a cork finished 750ml bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head. Aroma is brown sugar, figs, ginger and other spices. A medium bodied BSA. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of caramel and brown sugar. Nice spicing, ginger, clove and coriander. Very smooth taste, excellent mouthfeel. Again a nice beer to sip on that cold winter evening. Touch of alcohol bite at 10%. Mouthfeel is very full and smooth. Aftertaste is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol.

Dec 28, 2007 Bottle from Kevin. Body-dark cola with a lasting foamy head. Very nice looking. Nose-light banana bread, foamy, very Belgian. Taste-bready, raisin, light fig, sourdough starter like alcohol, light bubblegum, raw brown sugar, light dark fruit, lightly Earthy, medium to high CO2, bready malt dominates, apple, some pear. Good, but I much prefer the regular SB 12.
