Open the doors of the apartment and let the cool infiltrate so I can get into the mood for this beer. And a very good beer indeed. Fine fruity notes with robust malt background. Not as pudding like as I could have expected but I am not really au fait with the Belgian attitude towards desserts such as these. As always though, a fine BSA.

Nose is of yeast, funk and spice. Somewhat saison-like. Taste is more quad-like, with raisins and dark fruit, along with some spice. Mouthfeel is medium-thin, dry and carbonated, with slight alcohol. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Mahogany with a large, foamy beige head that tries to escape the glass. Yeasty nose to the point of musk, also rich malt leaning towards Westy 8. Apple and brown sugar are additional aromas. The flavor continues the malt, fruit, and candi sugar. This review sucks, but this beer is great. Think Abt 12 with malt and fruit covering the alcohol and filling in the formulaic gaps that shows so noticeably in St. Bernardus’ flagship. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Draft at High Street Grill. Poured a dark brown with an average size frothy light beige head. Aroma is loaded with yeast and fruit notes. I was suprised that this was more of a sweet tropical fruit note then the usual dark fruits that are associated with most of the dark Belgians I have tried lately. Flavor is great with lots of fruit and yeast, strong dark malts and just the tiniest trace of alcohol. This was one nicely done Belgian Strong Ale. Bontus (310), Waasmunster, Belgium

Sweet candy nose, some spices but not outspoken. Strong malty aroma’s, well balanced. Very drinkable, ABV very well hidden. Not better than the abt, but still rather good.
