| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 4, 2006 The aroma is quie lacking on this one in my opinion. almost a slight astringment smell to it, with some very small hints of fruit inn the aroma. Wow does the flavor not disappoint! Much better than what was expected from what i got out of the smell. Some yeasty doughy flavors bcked with a lot of subtle fruits intertwined within the yeast belgian flavors. The mouthfeel is similar to any belgian or St Bernardus for that matter...GREAT! Perfect full mouthcoating smooth mouthfeel that has just a hint of tingling carbonation. Overall a pretty good beer, and much better than i expected...a nice surprise! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Bottle BB 7/3/2008. Poured a clear, deeper burnt orange with a looser, but creamy cap of beige head. The nose was soft and spicy, with raisins, dates, nuttiness, a little tobacco, and cloves... very nice, but a little tough to get at. The flavor found spicy dark fruits, toasted grain, hints of must, sourdough bread, and a rather high spicy bitterness coming through in the latter half of the drink... alcohol accents worked well at the tip of the tongue. Creamy on the front half of the palate with toasty higher bitterness rockin’ the back-end and finish... a tad light on the palate, but never approached being watery. This was a fine ale. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 2, 2006 11.2 oz bottle. Fairly clear, light brown color with a medium sized beige head. Mildly sweet, malty aroma with a good deal of yeast and some dried fruit. Flavor was again, slightly sweet with some caramel malt, bread and raisins before turning somewhat tart on the finish. A bit thin, but that could just be me unfairly comparing it to the Abt 12 and Prior 8. Saarlander (1583), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Probably my least favorite so far from St. Bernardus, but still a good brew. Alot of bitterness to this one, with little sweetness, its lacking alot of flavor, abit of an alcohol burn, was expecting more dark fruits, oh well, still better than a ton of biers out there! jason (1626), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2006 Bottle. Great aroma, smell of black plums, currants, eggplant. Keeps a big head till the end. Very sweet and full bodied. Smooth and complex. Great anytime. I really enjoyed this one. Cheers! mtdshn (174), Moline, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark mohagany with a small tan head. Scents of dark chocolate, some kurant, a small amount of spice. This is fairly bitter but in my opinion fairly bland. A good beer regardless, but not the best from the brewery. csbosox (1084), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2006 11.2oz bottle dated 13/08/07. Duvel tulip. Brown color with a finger high cream colored head. Aroma is nuts, brown sugar, dark fruits, and green apple. Initial taste is vanilla and dark fruits followed by a tart, somewhat bitter middle and and a tart, dark fruit finish. Nice mouthfeel. Pretty tasty, but nothing like the 12.
