changeup45 (557), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2008 Another selection from a St. Bernardus mixed 6 pack I recently purchased. This one pours a hazy dark brown color (similar to the last one the Pater 6). Nice foamy head that does taper off a bit. Aroma is slightly malty and grainy but it’s faint, there’s just not much there. There is however quite a bit of flavor. It seems relatively full bodied too. The taste is malty, quite sweet, sort of like brown sugar with some fruit and caramel characteristics. It all blends in nicely, but it’s not the type of beer I would drink several of at one seating. Good thing too as it’s not cheap.
fata2683 (62), APO, New York, USA Aug 19, 2008 While not nearly as good as the 12 the Bernardus 8 is still a solid brunn. I like the mix of dark candi sugar and smooth alcohol burn in the finish. Jblauvs (151), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2008 Dark Brown pour, slight offwhite head. Sweet malt aroma with dark fruit(figs, raisin, dates) slightly Darker, Maltier than the aroma suggests, but not overly so. Dark sugars and sticky fruits as well. Warming alcohol on the finish. Solid Belgian strong, well made and enjoyable. NJJereme (116), Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA Aug 15, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma of bread mixed with figs and a little bit of chocolate. Not overly malty nor overly bitter. Medium bodied with a creamy mouth feel and easy finish. A very enjoyable beer. DrDavid (117), , Vermont, USA Aug 12, 2008 (Bottle). Extremely fruity, sweet aroma. Gorgeous dark red brown color with a short lasting off-white head. Flavor is all about figs, plums, oranges, in a complex blend, and not overpoweringly sweet. Lovely dryish finish. Borresteijn (448), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 7, 2008 Bottle & tap @ Café Gollem. Dark brown, beige head. Aroma of St.B-yeast, grains, chocolate and dark fruits. Taste has the same rich elements as mentioned above, with some spices added and lots of brown sugar sweetness. A beer for slow drinking.
