Commercial Description:
This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

A nice, classic dubbel. Dark brown with sediment and a nice cream colored head. Lots of sweet malt, brown sugar, and yeast. Some fruit. Very good palate.

On tap at Belgo Camden, 12th August 2007. Looks great in the glass - dark reddish amber with a small foamy head which leaves good lacing. Nice aroma of spices, orange peel, burnt sugar and biscuity malt. The malt dominates the flavour I feel, which is a pity. The palate is smooth and full. Like the blonde, good stuff, but not a world beater.

330ml bottle. Pours an attractive deep red-brown body settled under a creamy, off-white head. Gives a fragrance of late berries and riped fruit. The taste has got a sweet malty character with the support of caramel and biscuit added by a spicy touch (pepper) and notes of plums. It is all offset by soft yeasty tartness at a rather dry ending (06.08.2007).

11.2 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Pours hazy dark reddish brown with lasting brownish amber head and some lace. Faint aroma of malt and yeast earth with slight alcohol. Flavors of caramel, and fruity, raisiny tobacco, with clean finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Refreshing and tasty, if not very distinctive.

[Sampled in 2004.] Lots of notes. Perfume, toffee, plums, butterstotch, heavy amounts of caramel, great "fat" yeast. Wonderful and very hamonious with a dry finish.

Bottle 0.33L. Hazy, dark amber body with a large, creamy, light-brown head, mostly lasting with a good lacing. Moderate malty aroma (caramel) with spicy and fruity (apple, cherry, raisin) notes. Moderate sweet and acidic flavour with a light bitter character at the beginning; then the sweet note becomes less intense while the bitter character grows up. Medium body with an oily texture; soft carbonation; light astringency; moderate alcoholic feeling in the finish. Very satisfactory; complex.
