The taste is sweet toffee and spicies, with just a bit of bitterness, no aftertaste.I had this beer at L’Autre Oeil. Jerre (1768), Waregem, Belgium

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2007 75 cl. bottle from the supermarket. Poured a dark and cloudy reddish brown with an almond colored head. Aroma dominated by an oaky/alcohol sherry character, with molasses, dark coffee and chocolate notes. Sweet malty (molasses, coffee) and some earthy flavors, with an underlying alcohol warmth. I’m surprised here by what I perceived as strong alcohol notes considering that the ABV is listed at only 7.5%. Kind of a thin mouthfeel, especially on the first pour, which leads to a disappointing finish given the predominantly malty flavors. Overly sweet maltiness without any real complexity to make it interesting. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Dark brown pour, silky khaki-colored head. Toffee, chocolate in the aroma. Some raisins, baked brown bread, toffee and chocolate all swirled around together nicely in the flavor. Only gets better as it warms. Thickish, creamy mouthfeel. Satisfying - very solid Belgian. agl108 (509), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA

Slightly yeast/sour aroma. Turns into a brown beer in the mouth, malty and then more sourness on finish. Other than that it’s a fairly normal brune JoeinUccle (911), Brussels, Belgium
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 19, 2007 Found a four-year old bottle (Jan. 2003) and couldn’t resist opening it last night. It was gorgeous. Ruddy-dark brown color with thick, dark-beige and lasting head. Still well carbonated. Smells of brandy and roasted malt, light chocolate. Flavor was still balanced with dark-malty hops, sweetish caramel, and alcohol only in the background. Awesome flavor, spicy with some raisin and gingerbread cookie. Gently dry and still pretty lively. Should have done a side-by-side with a new one. Next time, next time. This is still an underrated brewery that makes excellent versions of the classic Belgian styles. Palidor19 (1792), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 17, 2007 The aroma and taste has the definitive malts taste plus presence of dark fruits. Yet, its got a very mild wild yeasty taste that leave a mild tart after thought. The beer has well carbonation through out the entire session.
