Commercial Description:
This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

Pours deep mahogany into a trappist glass. Beige head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Dried fruit and almond aromas. Full with booze soaked chocolate-covered raisins and a lasting licorice finish.

Lot of beautiful sounding foam on deep red, almost black beer. Taste is watery liquorice and feels great

Sample at 3rd Annual Great Austin Belgian Beer Festival on May 16, 2009. Losing memory for the review (too many samples by this time), but I did manage to write down the numbers. Sour nose, sour brown flavor. Very good. Gotta keep this one in mind next time I’m shopping for a Belgian.

This ruby ale poured with a massive tan head and I had to wait a few minutes to get to the liquid. There is a strong malt aroma emanating from a tasty blend of caramel, chocolate and licorice. The finish is a little harsh, but otherwise an excellent brew.

On tap. Big, alcoholic chemical aroma, oxidized cherry pits and wheat or something. A bit of a mess. Thinnish, acrid flavor, a bit of caramel, yeast, bitter greens. Not as bad as my description may make it sound, but I see little worth drinking here, unfortunately.
