rederic (1569), montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 14, 2006 Hazy brown hue, with a frothy tan-colored head, with a rich sweet malty nose of caramelized malt, toasted malt, brown sugar, with notes of dark dried fruit, like dates, prunes, figs, with a chocolatey accent, reminiscent of a fruitcake. Follows through on a full-bodied palate with sweet toasted and caramel malt character, with a toffeish note, dried dark fruit flavors, from dates, prunes, with brown sugar, molasses, chocolate sweetness. Finishes on a sweet malty brandyish alcoholic note.
MattShizzle (365), Bernville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2009 Medium brown color, very cloudy. Aroma is slightly spicy. A bit sweet and quite malty - you can tell this is a strong beer. chicagobears (330), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2008 Pours a muddy brown with sediment and carbonation floating about. Great aroma that is nutty, caramel and fruit like. Has a liquorice and roasted flavor. A hint of molasses. Glouglouburp (2180), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 30, 2008 In short: By-the-book but superior fruity Belgian amber ale. Good stuff
How: Bottle 750ml, about 1 year old
The look: Cloudy redish-brown body topped by a medium beige head that quickly recedes to a ring of foam
In long: Nose of earthy hops, wood and such along with the usual Belgian amber ale fruity esters. Taste is surprisingly nutty with lots of fresh and dried fruits. Finish is fruity with a hefty amount of woody hops. I really liked the overall nutty and woody feeling of the beer. Nothing new for the style but this is yet another way above average beer from St-Feuillein. These guys know how to brew beer. Which is a good thing since they are a brewery.
