sayravai (3183), Helsinki, Finland Apr 11, 2005 Updated: Mar 4, 2006 (Bottled, "Jean de Nivelles Brune") Deep, dark red color with a large, lasting and tight, beige head. Very perfumed, strong herbs aroma with licorice and rye-pudding. Sweetish toffee-malty flavor with lots of herbs and anise. Liqueourish, medium-bodied palate with lively carbonation. A very enjoyable dubbel with Gouden Carolus character. Not very full-bodied, but very herby and toasty. Yum! Earlier Rating: 12/25/2004 Total Score: 4 (Bottled, 0.75l) Very dark, ruby red color with a large, tanned head. Malty, milk chocolate aroma with citric fruitiness. Quite acidic, slightly sour, citric-malty flavor with rye-pudding and licorice hints, plus a quite high bitterness. Medium to full-bodied palate with balanced carbonation. A malty, sour/dryish, well-balanced and quite complex dubbel. Very nice and enjoyable!
Slayer85 (457), Firenze, Italy Oct 10, 2008 Bottled. A cloudy dark red/brown beer with a big, quick disappearing beige head. The aroma has a good maltiness and notes of caramel, fruits, spices and a light herbal touch fro the hops. The flavour is overall well balanced, not overly sweet and with a moderate acidity. Again some caramel and the spices are well present. Medium body, lively carbonation, long fiinish with almost medium bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden. Surely a good beer. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 5, 2008 Bottle from Johns Market Place in PDX--Poured a deep robust chestnut brown body with a minimal off-white head. Nutty, sweet, metallic, slightly cardboardy. I think this beer is a little off, but is still tasty and robust. Not bad. ogivlado (2391), Zagreb, Croatia Aug 31, 2008 Bottled(330ml). -Ruby reddish coloured, medium sized white head that went away slowly, fruity spicy nose. Well balanced fruity spicy and light caramel and alcoholic taste with mild notes of honey, yeast and berries. Very smooth. Scauca (260), Lovere, Italy Aug 26, 2008 Tap. Dark brown with a very nice creamy tan head. Strong fruity aroma, berries overall, and a touch of roasted malt. Very smooth palate, again berries, caramel and a light touch of dark maltiness.
