| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Draft at Cheeky Monk - cloudy peach-colored beer, with an impressive, frothy head - quite an earthy beer indeed, with a lot of cellared, cobweb notes - not as dry as a lot of saisons - actually, there is quite a bit of honey sweetness - this one sits somewhere in between saison and biere de garde - apricot and other fruity notes - toasted grains - wheaty tang - spicy, almost peppery finish, with lingering sweetness behind it - quite tasty, actually. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 On Tap @ The Trappist. Excellent Saison - without funk! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a richly-hued, golden-orange body with a rapidly expansive, long lasting, white head.
Smell: Opening wafts of pale and pils malts with a sweet-smelling aroma of fresh honey braced with ensuing notes of flowers, soft fruits, and a light touch of spice. Some slight phenols are tucked away in there as well.
Taste: Pils and pale maltiness along with, perhaps, some slightly tangy wheat blended in. A big, eye-opening sweetness rockets in with a taste of clover honey and candi sugar. Fleeting fruity hints of white peach and melon juice. As with the nose, there’s slight phenolics going on. Flowery, spicy hop character with a light bitterness. The flavor picks up some slight winey notes reminiscent of Riesling upon warming. Drying, effervescent finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Very well carbonated.
Drinkability: A good saison that’s big on sweetness, and, if you’re big on saisons that are big on sweetness, then give St. Feuillien Saison a go. Ernest (4509), Boulder, Colorado, USA
