JorisPPattyn (4493), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 11, 2008 Absolutely huge yellow head, very creamy over dark brown beer with red highlights. Shards of lace. Chocolatey-caramel nose, as an English chocolate sweet (coming from a Belgian, that is not meant as a compliment). Obviously spicy with lots of coriander, soupy. More coriander in the taste, thankfully held in check by other flavours as dark malts, chocolate, and a strange flavour as from the greenery from carrots. Ends a tad metallic-bitterish. Medium to well-bodied impression (despite the low ABV), quite slick. Not really bad - typically Du Bocq: best at brown, utterly dull at blondes, and outright s*cking at amber ales. Pity about the coriander overload.
oh6gdx (6331), Vaasa, Finland Sep 26, 2008 Bottled@Fonefan. Deep ruby colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, alcohol and some nectary notes. Flavour is caramel, sweet alcohol and also some wooden and nectary notes. Slight yeastyness and spicyness as it gets warmer. Jerre (1396), Waregem, Belgium Jul 12, 2008 Bottle, 33 cl. (intermarché)
Dark brown color, with off-white almost beige head.
Aroma malts, (little roasted) sweet malty fruity.
Medium body.
Taste sweet, roasted malts, some spice (coriander), bit bitter ending. Regular dark abbaybeer, but not bad.
