| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 26, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear ruby brown body with a one finger fizzy beige head that had decent retention. Nutty and slightly grainy nose with some nice chocolate notes. Kinda grainy with a underlying cooked veggie note though. The flavor is mostly nutty malt and moderate bitter hops that come out on the back end with some cocoa notes. A little muddled. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with fizzy moderate carbonation. Just another below average Brown Ale. Not a whole lot of character here. Elwood (684), Leesburg, Virginia, USA

Appearance: Almost black with small ruby highlights. It has a small, foamy, light tan head. Poor head retention.
Aroma: Very nutty with nice roasted notes and even a hint of chocolate.
Taste: Definitely on the roasty side, but a little thin on the body. Earthy with hints of mineral and coffee. I didn’t get the spicy/citrus hop bitterness they talk about. The flavor isn’t bad, but it lacks a punch.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium, slightly watery mouthfeel. Medium-long, roasty finish. Just kind of meh.
Overall: A very average brown ale that is pretty forgettable. You aren’t missing anything if you don’t have this one. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2009 Dragon pack bottle. Pours deep brown with 1-finger off-tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, nuts, peaty brown sugar. Tastes malty, earthy, with brown sugar, walnut, and cacao in the finish. Nice balance and complexity, and yet another winner from St. George, as far as I’m concerned one of the premier brewers in Virginia, or anywhere else for that matter. adavis234 (137), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2009 12 oz bottle. Looks a dark brown when in the glass but the pour contains a lot of red color. Head nearly nonexistent. Mocha/malt nose with a hint of nut. Spicy, malty body. Nutty, wood flavor as well. Aftertaste is bitter. A decent offering but not the brewery’s best. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Pours a deep brown chestnut with a bunch of amber notes and a medium creamy bubbly tan head that left lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, toasted malt, caramel, nuts, light citrus notes, vanilla and some dark fruits. Flavor of caramel, milk chocolate, toffee, toasted malt, nuts, light spicy hop character along with some citrus, vanilla and some hop bitterness. This may be my own opinion, but with American in the title I want to see more citrus floral hops in the nose and a touch more bitterness. Dont get me wrong the malt character in this beer is nice. The chocolate notes in the aroma and flavor are both really nice. So in the end...a really solid beer, just want more hops in my American Browns. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 8, 2008 This was the best of the dragon six pack I got from them. Better than the rest, but not up to par. Pours brown with a soapy tan head. The aroma is dusty and dirty with some roasty / toasty aspects, basement mustiness and light coffee bitterness. Medium body that’s lightly slick with gentle carbonation. The flavor starts a bit watery with dark malt and light nuttiness. The finish has a bit of spice and a touch of butter. Fair. The thing that is amusing to me is I was sitting next to two people chatting at a bar, one of which being a rep for St. George - he was talking about the importance of quality in the beer. Seriously. The six pack I got was from a very reputable store that had only been open two weeks. Frustrating.
