Flavor was dominated by a nice combination of chocolate and caramel. Hints of nuts. Color and aroma were as expected. Palate was pretty solid. I would say it is an above average version of the style. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 8, 2007 Not as horrific as the nut brown and there porter rock. It has a decent malty kick but too much water and swirly citrus pieces which don’t mend well together. PorterPounder (3147), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Dark chocolate pour with a sticky mocha colored head. Earthy aroma with some coffee and chocolate notes. Flavor follows the same trends with a heavy presence of earthiness. Coffee, chocolate, fresh dirt - all there - nutty back end. Thickish mouthfeel. Very decent. morrdt (608), Jacksonville, Florida, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 12, 2007 Nice clean and clear brown pour with a reddish hue, large solid foamy tan head disappears slowly leaving a clean glass. Ahh sweet malty caramel nut aroma. Wow at first its like a sharp cheddar cheese flavor, I mean a quality cheese, then a roasted bitter chocolate flavor finishes clean and dry leaving a nice big warmth in the chest after every swallow which lingers. Nice hops presence in the aftertaste. I like. Could drink this every day. bryandhargrave (165), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2007 Deep walnut pour that had a huge brown overflowing head... quite active. The aromas are comforting, especially after warming a bit. I pick up caramel and figs, malt and syrup. The flavor is indeed "nutty", with an overlay of smoky roasts and a hint of a coffee finish. Nice malt interwoven in there, as well. Well-complementary hopped backpull is nice to round out an otherwise dull palate. Not bad overall. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2007 12oz bottle. Filtered with a deep ruby brown hue. Syrupy malt y with a cocoa cookie aroma. Medium bodied with smooth malts. Nice bright hop finish. Caramel and cookie malt flavors. Zesty and zippy malts. Medium effervescence. Piney and spicy hops. Touch of that cola nuance. Hint of dark dried fruits. Good toasty flavor. Good stretching dryness. Balnced between the malts and hops. Between the initial palate to the finish, from the sweet to the dry. Enjoyed this brew!
