Optigon (547), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Mar 28, 2008 Pours orange with a fine, white head. Caramel, honey, citrus aroma. Moderate mouth feel with a hoppy backdrop. Caramel, honey, and fruity flavors appear. Very good. Magjayran (1111), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 19, 2008 Amber colored and clear with a thin white head. The nose is big and malty up front with some hints of pear. Sweet caramel flavor. Very sticky. Some faint hints of light fruit and toffee. Medium carbonation. Good mouthfeel. jmuhops (654), Winchester, Virginia, USA Oct 23, 2007 Pours amber with a one-finger white head. Great toffee and light grainy, earthy hop aroma. A little heat in the nose. Sweet, malty flavor. Some nuttiness. The alcohol comes through a little too much on the end; maybe a touch more hoppiness would take care of that. Or maybe just make it a bit weaker. Still, definitely worth a shot. One of the few decent American Bocks. obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Aug 26, 2007 Shockoe festival Richmond VA-Draft: Bready, nutty, and a little meaty aroma. Cloudy light ochre pour, thick yellow head. Taste is sweet caramel and walnut. There’s a faint hint of bubblegum on the palate. Chewy mouthfeel. bubbleflubber (648), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Aug 12, 2007 On tap at the Microfestivus ’07... Dark amber pour with a frothy eggshell head that reduces to a small cap; leaves soapy lace. Malt, silage and sour grains to the nose... maybe some light wet tobacco, reminiscent of a countryside. Malty introduction upfront, with slightly sour grains in the mid-palate. It finishes with a boldly bitter back that contains some esters. Lingering hops add body and complexity to a rounder/warmer, yet quaffable mouthfeel. Decent for the season it’s intended.
