Commercial Description:
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

This is the third porter I’ve had recently, and probably the most well-balanced of the trio. Pours a dark opaque brown with a minimal orange-brown head which quickly recedes to nothing. This beer starts with a bit of pineapple fruitiness, which quickly yields (with the appearance of some tingly carbonation on the palate) to a mild smokey, bitterness which is pleasant, and not over powering. The aroma of this beer is dominantly of coffee. There is a nice smooth finish.

Bottle at Wintergreen Resort, VA. Dark, no head. Roasted aroma. Good tasting almost stout-like quality. Some roasted chocolate flavors.

From bottle. Pours black with a thick coffee head. Nose is chocolate and nutty. Flavor has some roasted chocolate in it as well.

Bottle courtesy of Immy. Thanks Tim! Poured a thick black with a small brown, creamy head that quickly dissipated. The aroma a fairly faint at first but more distinct as it warmed. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and some roastiness. The flavor was a sweet chocolate and coffee mix. Medium body with a coffee aftertaste. Very enjoyable Porter.

Pour was dark brown with red highlights. Nose was chocolate and coffee and a touch of medicine. Wow, taste is smooth liquid chcolate excellence. Glad I waited for this to warm. Good lacing. Taste left a sweet bitter chocolate coffee finish, touch of hops. Really nice, glad I have another one. Mmmmm...

Bottle. Poured a deep brown, almost black, w/ a lite tan head. Sweet w/ choc. and coffee, very mild bitterness. The best I’ve had from St. George so far.

Thin off white head on an very dark brown, almost black body. Heavy malts and caramel are evident in the aroma, possibly also some dark fruits and chocolate. Heavy chocolate and coffee tones in the body. Dry ending, yet smooth compared to other porters.

bottle. This porter is a deep ruby red with a dissipating fizzy head and is quite visibly carbonated. Aroma is sweet malt, some cola, coffee. The flavor packs more chocolate, though it’s semi-thin all around. Also there’s a bit of molasses. I just don’t think this is hearty or roasty enough to be a better than average porter.
