| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2005 Pours a deep garnet/brown with a light brown head that faded quickly. Chocolatey, coffee, nutty nose. Flavor is of coffee and bitter chocolate. Finish matches the flavor. Hangs a bit, but cleaner than other porters I’ve had. Overall, a very nice and relatively cheap porter - a pleasant suprise! IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA

Poured brown with ruby highlites with a fizzy off-white head which dissipated completely. Aroma of mild hops and a touch of chocolate. Taste is somewhat thin coffee and chocolate with a dry hop aftertaste.. a bit metallic. Decent session porter. blatz (138), Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 2, 2005 This was my second favorite find on my recent trip to Virginia. A nice dark brown fade to black appearance -- coffee licorice aroma, head was too carbonated for my liking tho -- too many big bubbles rather than a tight creamy froth (like Anchor’s) and it faded away quickly. Taste was also a great roasted coffee reminiscence, but it too was overcabonated. Finish was good and had a nice bitterness to it, which is not as common in this style. Overall very good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2005 I watched this pouring out of the bottle a deep ruby red color, but as it collected in my glass it gathered and deepened to a brownish black with generous tan head that sank to a ring of lacing that continuously floated atop the beer. Aroma is sweet chocolate and raisin/fruit. Taste has a vinous fruity edge followed by chocolate and very light roast and then finishes with an almost red grape fruityness. Very good - I should’ve bought more! (obx_2005) Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 13, 2005 Pours dark brown with a ring of film. Big chocolate aroma with some spicy dark fruits. Flavor little weaker than aroma would indicate. A little chocolate with a slighly bitter coffee finish. Decent overall. Thanks to wohlfs. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan

Sweet, dessert-like, prunes, butterscotch, light floral hops. Cocoa, Mocha, a Black Russian. A sweet easy drinking beer, very tasty! DocLock, thank you! ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 5, 2005 a malty and chocolate example of a porter, this one is actually pretty good. pours brown in color and has a nice bitter finish. the bitterness is something that i like in my beers, but it kind of goes against this porter. i think porters should be smooth and creamy which this one is - yet i think they should like the hop bitterness of an IPA. still a good effort, and by no means a bad beer.
