| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Bottle. Vague toffee and chocolate notes, but only vaguely, with some sort of diaperish ointment much stronger. Faint butterscotch and licorice. Ruby-coke pour with a soapy light brown head. Taste is full of classy dryness and faint bitterness, aftertaste and finish with a little more of each and a little curling hoppiness. Toffee and caramel, nice grittiness to strain through the teeth. Medium body is alternately crisp and smooth. Decent. ucusty (1915), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 8, 2007 A fine porter with great bittery tones, caramel malts, dark fruits and I was blown by this one. I expected worse but got better. Its not the most balanced beer but the sweetness and elements make for an interesting beer. I wish their beers were a tad less watery though. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Very dark brown - ruby red pour. Tight mocha head, decent lacing. Nice aromatic essence of coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor brings a molasses twinge sweetness with hints of chocolate and coffee and finishes with a salty blast. Thickish mouthfeel, beermaniac (86), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 29, 2007 Aroma: Some roast, light hoppiness, some coffee, syrupy caramel aroma. Molasses aroma is kind of odd.
Appearance: Low head retention, very dark ruber color.
Flavor: Sudden rush of hoppiness and caramelly malty flavor. Same odd molasses flavor, pretty prominent in the finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, no astringency, adequate carbonation.
Overall: Ok, a little too caramelly, not enough roast. Molasses character that is evident is kind of off putting, and a strange soy sauce flavor also rears its ugly head.
