Commercial Description:
St. George Porter weaves a complex tapestry of flavors in a black, ruby colored ale. A rich malt base, typical of St. George Ales, results in caramel and chocolate tones, classically balanced with English bittering and aromatic hops.

12 oz. bottle - clear, cola brown pour with thin bubbly white head along the edges; fresh, nutty aromas of mild coffee and chocolate; caramel, burnt malts and a dry roasty quality; toasty, nutty and almost ashy; texture is thin, smooth and dry; simple and light overall, but a very solid porter overall; nutty and almost smoky with the sweet, roasted malts

355 mL. Wow this was a nice surprise! I wasn’t expecting much but this was fantastic. Pours a deep ruby with a two-finger, dark tan head that has fairly good retention and leaves abundant sticky lacing. Aroma is burnt sugar, molasses, roasted malt, toasted bread, charred oak. Flavor is tons of milk chocolate, some chocolate-covered strawberries, cafe latte, roasted coffee. Very crisp and clean. Quick, sweet finish. Very good. Highly recommended.

Impressive porter. Dark brown color, good foamy head. Rich aroma is heavy on chocolate. Flavor is very chocolate, a bit of coffee, light roast. Moderate palate, balanced, can’t really call it semi-sweet or semi-dry, but its in and around there. Richly flavored, robust yet very easy to drink. One of the top porters I’ve had, right up there with Anchor.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep brown with a small tan head. Roasted malt nose with notes of raisin, prune, and chocolate. Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Burnt notes, coffee, light chocolate, a little prune, and mineral notes on the palate. Medium finish that is a little dry with some lingering roastiness. A very sessionable and solid porter.

Black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of chocoffee dominates. Light chocolaty flavor with a light sour. Thin watery and foamy. If this beer had tasted as good as it smelled it would have been a homerun.

This beer was brought to me by a friend who had traveled out of state. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy dark brown head. The aroma was tangy, sour, malty and lightly roasty. The flavor was dry, roasty and lightly bitter with a hint of weak coffee, a touch of wood and a smoky undertone. The finish was dry, woody, smoky and roasty. Decent.
