| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Pours semitransparent chocolate brown producing a body of thick black; foam scatters and stays as a thin tan ring on the rim. Aroma of doughy minted brownies and baker’s chocolate and a bit of burnt caramel and red licorice; full, rich and sweet and pretty much locked in on that single dimension throughout. Flavor as well is mostly bittersweet dark chocolate with that lovely, leathery, earthy density that it offers, never growing very sweet but hanging back on raw cocoa nibs and dusty, cool mint overtones. This is what a mocha should taste like; full, towering, sweet roastiness and fresh bitterness, unhindered by the twang of residual sugar and oxidized, unattended espresso. Bit of anise, fig, and red meat show in the mid palate. Mouthfeel is frothy and thick, a little loose and scattered with a watery lilt at times, but thoroughly full and warm. Very easy to put back. Finishes with some dirty caramel bread, walnut brownies, and touchy tanginess. Very likeable; a well made, restrained but confident example. A prime cellar candidate here, to sit for maybe about one year. Thanks Chris! railcat1 (582), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2008 12oz bottle. if this really is only 7.6%abv then its probably the lowed alc imperial stout i’ve ever had, so here i go...pours black with wispy biege head. aroma is more on the dark fruity side, sweet chocolate syrup and coffee. flavor is very similar to the nose, more on the dark fruit side of the imperial stout spectrum and lacks a bit roasty coffee precence. i wouldnt be surprised if this was brewed with raisins. a light body for the style as well. if you dont mind a more dark fruit imperial stout then give this one a try, if you do mind, give it a try anyway, its still pretty good. Nose is licorice, chocolate and molasses. Creamy body with buzzy carb. Taste is dark chocolate and prunes. Finishes dry with smoked pink grapefruit and espresso. A bit sharp; needs some age but pretty good. Pailhead (2605), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: The aroma is a nice combination of molasses, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, smoke, and even a hint of bourbon and alcohol. It pours an oily looking black with a small brown head that fades quickly to a small ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with a chocolate that quickly is overtaken by roasted malt. It finishes with some caramel, light smoke, coffee, and nuts. There is some noticeable alcohol flavor in the finish, but no real warmth. The flavor is solid, but I was expecting more based on the aroma. Medium bodied with somewhat lively, but soft, carbonation.
