I got this in a St George Sampler pack and I was blown away. It poured black as asphalt with a dark brown head. Tthe flavor was rich and mellow, with strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Powerful, yet smooth and inviting, beaconing you to take another sip. Definitely worth trying if you’re a fan of stouts.

caramel, toffee, brown sugar, licorice. Roasty in the finish. A little thin at first. Sweet, but balanced finely by a smooth bitterness in the back. Medium mouthfeel. A little grainy. Preset alcohol. A little slick and thick. Very enjoyable, but not without it’s flaws.

Bottle: Thick and black with a marshmellowy tan head. Decent aroma of dark chocolate and cherries. First swallow: nice and roasty, but ashy with a twist of bitter chocolate. Very nice stout. <<Rerated 2/7/2008 ... mad props to my neighborhood brewer, and my original rating holds up ... Thick with chocolate, cherry, and even a hint of java. Very, very nice.>>

Bottle, August 2006. Pitch black colour. Smoky malt aroma, with touches of chocolate and tobacco. Quite slick and oily consistency. Lots of burnt malt on the palate, with a fair amount of bitterness. There’s more chocolate in the flavour and tarry, slightly medicinal edges. Not a smooth, sumptuous stout but its a quite nicely rounded beer and hit the spot nicely.

Bottle courtesy of my secrect santa, thanks! Black pour with a light tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Sweet, with some toffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee...paerhaps a bit of smoke. Decent body to it...bittersweet throughout...smokey with a bitter/roasty finish.

Dark and rich with lots of depth to the color and a creamy head. Aromas of maple sugar, cinnamon and clove, chocolate malts and vanilla bean. A little less interesting on tasting. Creamy palate and sensible malts that lend a nice caramel undertone to the beer. One of the better winter stouts out there.

Bottle: Black with a tan head. Aroma, coffee, vanilla, some oats, and a nice bittersweet note. Flavor, chocolate and molassas, some coffee. Really nice brew, medium bodied.
