Commercial Description:
We brew the strongly hopped Keller Bier traditionally according to an age-old recipe and then let it mature unbunged in deep vaults. Naturally cloudy; with bottom-fermenting yeast rich in vitamins, this very drinkable beer is frequently enjoyed out of a stein.

(500 ml bottle: $1.99 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) Rather dry in flavor and mouthfeel, this beer is quite nicely balanced. The malts are toasty, lightly roasty and minimally sweet, and the traditional-tasting hops are moderately bitter with a long-lasting finish. In fact, the hoppy finish is pretty much what I notice most once my palate has adjusted after a few sips. Certainly one of the more hoppier German beers I remember tasting. Unlike the flavor, the nose shows a bit more graininess than hoppy aromas. Medium bodied with gentle carbonation. Golden amber in color with pretty near perfect clarity, the body is capped by a foamy, white head that slowly settles to a thin layer while leaving irregular, ringed lacing over much of the glass. It’s been interesting to sample this unusually hoppy beer from Germany, the overall flavor hasn’t won me over as a fan.

05.09.06 500ml capped bottle (not a swing top like in the photo here). Dark amber color is clouded with suspended flecks, yeast I assume, and resides below a khaki head of large-bubbled foam. Moderate lace. Aroma is kinda meaty for what I had figured to be a lighter style, whole-grain bready, lots of wet earth, a bit on the yeasty side (doughy). Flavor is also earthy, reminds of clay, leaf-dirt-earth hoppiness with touches of acidity and lingering but mild finishing bitterness. Mild and drinkable stuff.

Pours an dark amber with small white head. Yeast sits suspended in the beer. My first keller beer. Finish is almost non-existent.

Bottle. Pours golden with no head. Aroma of hops, sweet malts, and citrus. The flavor is bitter, sweet malts, smooth, and a candy taste for a finish not my thing but my first keller beer.

From a 500ml brown bottle w/o bottled-on date. Pours a dark amber with yeast sediment, very little head. Big malty aroma. Fairly thin body with a hop bitterness that approaches a balance with the malty flavor. A slight rye-like character. Slightly bitter finish. Interesting..

500ml bottle, it’s probably pretty old. Dark cloudy amber body with a moderate head. Aroma was buttery with caramel, bread and grassy hops. Some bitterness here but still very drinkable. My first for the style, good stuff.

Bottle. Pours golden with no head. Aroma of hops, sweet malts, and citrus. The flavor is mildly bitter upfront, sweet malts, smooth, and a fruity/sugary taste for a finish ( almost like pez candy). decent beer, good flavor but nothing exceptional.
