Commercial Description:
We brew the strongly hopped Keller Bier traditionally according to an age-old recipe and then let it mature unbunged in deep vaults. Naturally cloudy; with bottom-fermenting yeast rich in vitamins, this very drinkable beer is frequently enjoyed out of a stein.

Pours amber with a decent sized head. Smells malty with some citrus undertones. Taste is slightly nutty with some grapefruit, citrus, straw and sugar. Some nice oaky notes are present on the nose. Not a bad beer at all.

bottle 2004 pours dull and murky amber with scant head but some lace (just like the picture).Aroma is some cellar, earthy but lots of malt and bit o ’honey candy. Taste is old aged beer (go figure) very malty with some staleness, hoppy but not in a IPA way but in a european pils way. Dry finish with a medium body. Thanks to Ratebeer for I would never have bought this one but I am trying all the styles!

Bottle. Pours copper with a small manilla colored head. Nose is very grassy and malty. Light toasted bread notes. Taste is grassy and slightly bitter with milder maltiness and more toasted bread notes. Body seems dry and moderately carbonated. Finish is grassy again and hoppy. Mild toasted maltiness and some graininess come through.

Aroma is fairly weak and creates a semblance to stale burnt popcorn. Strangely blurry brown with a skinny orange glow, flat pour, nearly no head progressed from a rapid pour and doesn’t lace in any fashion I’d call appealing, very drippy and loose with no sticking. Quick taster evident of a toasty dry husked grain, slight off flavors of alkaline, brief finish that stores up a cardboard-like hoppy sense with a bit of herbal grass. Fades off nicely though with a simple dry husk grainyness and slight burnt popcorn. Feel is right where the drying husk stuff is at. Middle dryness, glimpsing carbonation, slight herbal, more so, slight burnt, even more so, slight toasted. Its a bit weird at first, but kinda grows on ya, and does seem decent enough once it sits. OK, but not quite good enough no seek out again.

Flip-top bottle: An excellent kind of Kellerbier: light brown, only slightly filtered brew, massive hop-aroma - herbal, flowery -, extremely dry, long finish. A gem.......

Let me first say, I love 500 mL bottles, the perfect size when it comes to German beers for some reason. Dark carmel color. Not a huge amount of carbonation, but some. Somewhat frothy head. Sweet, carmel nose. Fair amount of malt in the nose. Dry in the mouthfeel. A mild hoppy bitterness.

(bottle) Dark hazy amber colour with medium frothy, lightly tanned head. Floral hoppy aromas with a light toasted and citric touch. It starts a little caramellish & malty with a very dry hoppy and longlasting aftertaste. A complex, well balanced Kellerbier. I have to taste the Löwenbräu Buttenheim Keller in the neighbourhood of St. Georgen again as soon as possible.
