St. Louis Gueuze

Although it’s a bit Champale-like in taste, body and appearance, it’s still a refreshing change from the usual beer. It’s just not up to snuff: it’s too thin, too sweet and too simplistic. Loses points for the metallic notes.

From a 375 ml corked and caged bottle courtesy of pintbypint. The body is a light orange color. The head is white and huge. The aroma is apple cider and some honey sweetness. There are also some herbal notes. The taste is a tame white grape juice. There is also an apple cider character with a hint of cinnamon. A subtle and interesting versoin of the style. However, I would like a little more character of sourness.

Light amber color. Floral and herb aroma. Kind of a sugared sour candy flavor. Lights up the tongue. Interesting change from the usual.

Looks good, smells great, and even has a nice sweet herbal flavour. But Jeez, this beer has no body. It also leaves little lingering impression. Not bad, but if you’re paying premium prices, you want something better than this.

(Bottle 25 cl) Beautiful amber coloured with a rather fizzy head. Thin body but beautiful sweet and sour flavours. A commercial and sweetened gueuze but very pleasant indeed. And a good way to start if you’re not familiar to the style. 290893

Not really my style, but a decent gueuze for people trying to get into the style. Body is a dark gold colour, with very noticable white head. Aromas are herbal, hops, with some malts. Taste is bitter hops, malts, and grassy. Sort of a mild burn on the finish??? Strange.

First gueze for me. Very beautiful pour. tight stark white head with a deep gold colour. For me that was the best part though. Aroma and flavour is made up of wheat, coriander, cloves, a little ginger, with a mild sweetness. Cheers!

Amber bodied topped by a royal white head, leaving some great lacing around the glass edges thanks to a powerful carbonation. Honest aroma plays between the sweet cookieish malt hinting at honey, peaches and pumpkin and lightly moldy, moreso hay-like yeast. It’s definitely no disaster up to now and the palate is actually quite soft with the carbonation being just enough, smooth and medium bodied if finishing watery. It is too sweet though, that’s its only weakness, but it transcends everything else and kills any interest. A fair number of IPAs and even stouts show more acidity (though mostly citric) than St Louis Gueuze. Needless to say that the complexity is fairly limited as well, it’s just basically not very tasty at all, the malt is faint and the fermentation elements are not assertive at all, a mere shadow of the aroma.
