Pours a really nice deep red to coppery color with a one finger off white head. Aroma is pretty smoky, with some dark fruit notes, like dates maybe. A little bit of light fruits too, like mandarin oranges. I finally understand what the barnyard smell is, not really a bad thing, like I had sort of expected. Taste is pretty much like the smell. Very sweet and lightly fruity at first, then slowly getting drier and smokier as it finishes. A little bit of very mild spices, and some more dark fruits in the finish. Carbonation is decent, and mouthfeel is reasonably creamy. Very interesting beer. joss (3687), Garching b. München, Germany

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Nice clean crisp golden amber coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of hay, sour grapes, wheat, honeysuckle, vinegar and a tiny bit of malt. Light-bodied; Nice sour flavour up front with a good yeastie finish coupled with the vinegar and slightly sweet flavours you’d expect. Aftertaste shows some puckering, along with musty and grassy flavours throughout. Overall, a good gueuze - sweet and sour at the same time with a modestly meaty body. I sampled this 37.5 cL ’split’ bottle purchased from Bier Tempel in Bruxelles, Belgium on 02-January-2008 sampled on my birthday 30-June-2008. michael-pollack (2742), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
