At room temperature, it poured a cloudy pale lemon with a loose 1cm head. Indifferent head retention, no lace. Strong aroma of cloves, cinammon and burnt sugar with grass and faint bubblegum. Bit of soda-like spritz momentarily on the tongue with each mouthful but it faded quickly to a dull, undercarbonated brew. Thin in the body. Low on flavour. Predominant characteristics are carbon dioxide, watery lemon, wheat and pepper. As others observe, this is very Wit-like. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 11, 2005 Relatively undemanding, especially in the ’Belgian Blond’ category where ease of drinkability is the key. Poured into a chalice, quite cool. It was Blonde alright, having a similar pastel yellow hue to most Witbiers. Fairly hazy; intermittent small bubbles managed to raise up a fluffy, cauliflower head to the brim, before later dying back to leave webs of lace. Strong, zesty and tangy pear and apple nose with a little candi and something herbal I couldn’t pin-point. A little startling in the mouth at first, prickly carbonation, sour puckering lemons and garden fresh herbs battled for control. It softened as it warmed and smoothed out, with light notes of citrus fruits, sweet malt and doughy yeast. Finish remained zesty, herbal and lightly bitter with little length after the swallow. A little light on for flavour, I really had to look hard, but it did go down with ease doing a fine job as a thirst quencher. (33cL, bottling date unknown)
