Commercial Description:
In the small village of Meer, north of the city of Antwerp, there used to be an abbey which was famous for its beer named St. Paul. During the French Revolution, the abbey was destroyed and so it was said-one father named Paul, rescued the secret recipes to brew the abbey beer and trust them onto the local Sterkens family, at that time a renowned brewer family. The Sterkens family had been brewing beer since 1654, and their St. Paul abbey beer is still brewed today, respectfully according to the centuries old tradition.

Bottle (330ml) shared with blankboy at Smokeless Joe. Poured a hazy, glowing brownish ruby, with a small white head, spare lacing. Aroma very light, but I caught sweet malt, sour wine, licorice, cloves and some coriander. Taste also fairly thin, astringent, slightly hop-bitter, mildly malty, strong hazelnut with warming. Thin and astringent mouthfeel, finishes very minerally, nuttier and slightly bitter. Decent, but needs a bit more body.

Browny cola-like body with a hard to pour, compact, rocky off-white head. Didn’t think the head would last at all but it managed to hang around for a while and it tried to leave lacing. Burnt caramel malt aroma. Fruit also shows up in the taste, flat, sweet with a light to medium body, alcohol is only slightly noticeable. Easily drinkable but I felt a little let down with this drop.

Wow - lots and lots of floaties in this one. Nice dark brown body when not counting the multitude of suspended yeast. Malty and raisin/currant fruits lead to a nice sweet caramel flavour. Smooth finish - decent.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown with a beige head, some impurities in there. Soft body with some sweetness in there. Very licorice-like. Only a faint, late bitterness. Excellent. 190297

Dark brown, small tanned head. Aroma is malty, red currant juice -like. Medium-bodied. Malty with plums and grassy hops. Similarities to some Silly products.

Deep Brown-Brown-Red color with a few small particles in there. The off-white head was thick and lasted the enitre glass. Malty and carmel aromas. And maybe some Chocolate Milk. Flavor was very sweet and fruity. Thick almost creamy mouthfeel and a very smooth finish. Very Nice.

Bottled. Cherries in the aroma, with some maltiness. The color is caramel-like with a thick biege head. The flavor has some cherry and perhaps some currant. The mouthfeel is crisp and leaves a little bitterness, and smokiness behind. I enjoyed this quite a bit.
