Had at Beer Bistro Winterfest, and hung in together with Westys’ and other fine Belgiums for sampling. Beautiful lace, medium-full mouthfeel. Hops Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

I had 2 bottles in a row, for research purposes, you understand. One bottle, a unique conical shape, ceramic dipped, was a speckled gold-on-black color with gold foil at the neck and an orangish label. The other had a speckled black -on- white, with red at the neck and label. Could they be different bottlings, variantions, slightly skewed recipes?
Conclusion: no difference.
Anyway...ruddy brown color, huge, fluming, speckled creamy head.
Nose: delicious, creamy, cocoa, chocolatey, uplifting, rich, delicious. Just what I need in a good dubbel, or "double", whatever the case may be.
Big burst of hops, and then more complex flavors unfold on the palate: raisins, spices, fruit, ...very nice.Flavor is large, looming, warm, and happy, makes a body quite content about his beer!
Body is near the full side, but a bit mild. Finish is long, lush, rich, rewarding. Misses the deep, dark complexity of Belgian trappist dubbels, but a fine example of the style, anyway. A very good drink.

Lots of fruits and malts in the aroma. Taste of sweet berry fruit, raisins, candy sugar, yeast and burnt malts. Disappointingly thin rauchbier (3002), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 18, 2004 Bottle. Castro’s Lounge. Dark brown body with a thin head. Mouthfeel is very light for the style. Aroma is sweet malt with a hint of alcohol. Flavour is a bit watery, bit of sweet malt, and more alcoholic notes than it should really be showing. Pretty boring Belgian. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium
