Commercial Description:
In the small village of Meer, north of the city of Antwerp, there used to be an abbey which was famous for its beer named St. Paul. During the French Revolution, the abbey was destroyed and so it was said-one father named Paul, rescued the secret recipes to brew the abbey beer and trust them onto the local Sterkens family, at that time a renowned brewer family. The Sterkens family had been brewing beer since 1654, and their St. Paul abbey beer is still brewed today, respectfully according to the centuries old tradition.

Dark, almost black colored pour with nice small head. Nice aroma of malts and hints of chocolate. Nice roasted malty flavor to it.

Bottle: Poured a dark black/brown with thin light brown head. There was a sweet chocolate malt aroma. The taste was fruit and roasted malt.

Paours a clear reddish copper color, about the same shade as a cup of tea, with a quarter inch of beige foam. The head resedes to a film and a thick ring. Minimal lacing. Molasses and rum in the aroma - enticing. The flavor is of dry grainy malt, with a bit of mild fruit and a musty yeasty flavor as well. The beer tastes somewhat similar to Ommegand, but subdued somewhat. Floral hops and a mild herbal character in the finish. Somewhere between light and medium bodied, lightly carbonated.

Very very malty with some vanilla feel. Quite good altho nothing special. Medium carbonation. The vanilla goes stronger when it warms up.

Brown beer with a tan head, small head with large bubbles. What you’ve got is sweet malt and lots of it, but I still greatly enjoyed this beer. One-dimensional, but it does it right. Slightly thick body, notes of licorice and overripe fruit. Much like a Scottish ale. Good alcohol hiding.

Bottle at Vineyard Ottawa. Dark brown colour with a medium mocha head. Aroma is malt, brow sugar, biscuit and dark fruits. Taste is similar, with some caramel and some aroma hops in the aftertaste. Watery for the style.

All round good double with smooth and very drinkable flavor. Close to Leffe Brown, but I think this one goes down better. Dark brown collor with a sweet rosted malty aroma. Slight bitter and light finish
