Aromas are surprisingly restrained; some medicinal notes and a light smokey, flinty character. Quite varietal. Firm flavours right through the palate. Aniseed, some bitterness from the alcohol; quite layered and complex. Fruity edge on the finish is nice, as is the flintly, chalky overlay that runs right through the palate that thickens on the finish. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Pours a clear golden color with a tall-building white head, over carbonated and a bit fizzy on the palate. Nose contains some fuesal corn notes as well as some spicy hay and marshmallow yeast. Flavor much the same, with some sourness on the back, and some egg flavor. Weird. jonno (576), Brisbane, Australia

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2007 Updated: Jan 23, 2008Label reads ’Flanders Golden Ae’, poured a clear pale to medium gold with little orange,
some effervesence out of the bottle, foamy white bubbles that left some lacing,
aroma of malt, malt sweetness and mild funk mixed with faint spices, breadiness,
aged apples and faint old cider fragrances but this was not a sour tart fragrance,
I kept getting an aroma of apples on wood, flavor of light malt bread, toastiness
and sweet flavors with a hop bite of pepper spiciness, faint fruitiness flavor, comes across as a delicate ale, sweetness is balance by the bitterness and turns up dry in the finish,
feels light on the palate with the amount of carbonation in this ale,
I sense some alcohol warm in the background but the 8.5% alc. is hidden pretty well,
the alcohol does not grow at all when the ale reaches room temperature it stays in the background,
do not let the pale looks of this ale fool you, it has lots of flavor,
I see this being a nice Summer thirst quencher. MiP (9090), Sønderborg, Denmark
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 1, 2007 Bottle, 8.5%. Standard lager aroma. Not bad, but grainy and quite refreshing. Hazy golden colour. Nice, big, stable white head. The flavour is also grainy and lagery. Slightly bready, but not enough. An ale which has some OK lager properties.
