Commercial Description:
St. Sylester's Flander's Winter Ale is a rich Hearty winter ale top fermented in the classic tradition. In1918, Remy Ricour took over the old Brasserie in St. Sylestre in the heart of French Flanders. His dream was to produce authentc brews like the Trappist ales brewed at the nearby Monastery of Mont de Cats before the turn of the Century. Today, Serge Ricour, continuesthe third generation family tradition of brewing had crafted, full flavored, top fermented ales. In Flanders, it is traditional to make a hearty brew for Noel. At St. Sylvestre, hops are harvested in the fields surrounding the village. The "Malterie", 20 kM away, supplies a malt, with and appropriate Munich roast. The local hops plus the robust malt, produce a winter al with rich warm brown tones. While originally brewed only for Noel, it is now drunk throughout the winter season until the first brew of spring arrives.

One shouldn’t need tools and a corkscrew to open a beer. Pours a dark amber with a tall bubbly/frothy head. A winter warmer with a malty dark bread flavor.

[132-20061209] Bottle (as Brassin D’Hiver). Wet dog smell along with hints of cherry candy. Amber body with a quick off-white head. Fruity sour cherry flavour with some sour apple too. Medium body, nice feel. Nice togetherness, good to repeat (unfortunate about the canine part).

Bottle,750 ml,(brassin d’hiver) Clear red-golden color with light brown head.Soft but steady carbonation. Nose of malt and some flower, maybe violette. Alcohol is well hidden in soft caramel taste, Really easy to drink. Delicious on a sunny febuary day. Somehow reminds me of Bass especially the aroma.

Drinking from a bottle of Saint Sylvester’s Flander’s Winter Ale: The body is a ruby brown capped with a modest yellowish tan head. The aroma is toffee, cherries, and peaches with a light floral sharpness. It has a caramel maltiness with fruit and a floral bitterness to finish it off. Clean finish. A good drink that hides its stronger alcohol content well.

Bottle - 750ml. Dark copper/ruby body with average carbonation and a huge beige/rusty frothy head. Aroma is dominated by hoppiness. It carries sweet hints and hides the alcohol pretty well. Its hoppy/malty taste is very well balanced. Some roasted cereals and caramel notes are detectable. It ends with a good bitter and warming finish. This is a good winter warmer.

Malty but light on the palate, I didn’t expect the sour cherry, clean aftertaste, but the high alcohol is noticable

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. The aroma consists of sour cherryies with a hint of caramel. It pours a transparent orangish-red with a small white head. The flavor hs some light sour cherry up front with bitter woody finish. There’s some light yeastiness in the background. It seems pretty simple and not all that flavorful.
