Stadin Imperial Stout

Draught @ Kekri, Gallows Bird. Strong aroma of raisins and malt. A bit disappointing after tasting side to side with the Barley Wine 2005... sigh. A bit metallic and watery, otherwise an ok stout. Not necessarily an imperial one, though.

Draught @ Oluthuone Kaisla, Helsinki, Finland. Pitch black beer with a light brown head. The aroma is lightly roasted and the flavour is lightly bitter, coffee and roasted. Overall a reasonable dark beer.

Draught at Kaisla, Helsinki. Really black, small pale brown head. Lemony licorice aroma. Sweet and medium-full bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Light flavuored for an imperial stout. There’s grains, tobacco and aniseed but above all a lemon-licorice-menthe flavour. Spritzy finish with fairly low bitterness. A bit disappointing. It’s actually the 2nd time that I have lemony stouts from reputed brewers at Kaisla.

Black color. The body is quite thin for an Imperial Stout, aroma (quite light) and flavor are based on the dark caramel and roasted malt; there is no sweetness, no malt flavor, no strength; there is a light yeast aroma and a light sourness that reminds me some infection. The hops used are quite good (hidden). Even with a low alcohol content, the mouthfeel is warming. Not my kind.

Keg (Kaisla, Helsinki) As black as your hat. Light regular tan fizzy head. Huge coffee/espresso aroma, oily too. Even more so in the mouth. Covers the alcohol well. Good at the end of a session.
