The hops are not overpowering, but the effect is astringent. I drink ales. Lagers are low on my priorities. This one could be alternated with something like Smithwick’s ale, and it would work. One of the few lagers that drinks well at ale temperatures. It is what it is. I’d drink it, if a decent ale weren’t available. ironryan22 (52), Sydney, Australia

Bright gold with a creamy white head that holds and laces slightly. Very little carbonation. Buttery and slightly musty on the nose, smelling a bit like a weary premium. More mustiness in the mouth but underneath that I detect a good base of malt and a strong grassy bitterness. Some honey-like sweetness competes with the bitterness through the middle. Clean finish with a lingering spicy note on the palate. Could be quite good, if fresher. sanmiguel (118), Illinois, USA

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Best by Aug. 2006. Beer pours a clear, medium gold color with an average-sized, frothy, white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with light notes of toasted grain; yeasty with light notes of dough; moderate miscellaneous note of honey, trace note of watermellon rind. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately-to-heavily bitter with a long, moderately bitter, slightly metallic finish. Aftertaste is remarkably unclean. The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. rw4244 (128), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Pint, off tap. A golden pilsener, with a lasting rich white head. Hoppy aroma. Similar to other czech pilseners to taste, crisp, with a pleasant refreshing hoppy and almost metallic bite. The finish is similar, and lasting. One of my preferred lagers to drink, though seems slightly wanting in flavour.
