12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body with a small fizzy beige head that fell to a wispy film quickly. Nice and roasty nose with chocolate, light coffee, and what almost smells like a bit of oats. The flavor is a bit too acrid and astringent covering up the roasted malt and chocolate a little too much. A light twang on the finish. Mouthfeel is a little bit oily and sticky with moderate soft carbonation. Almost a little buttery on the finish. This one didn’t do it for me, hard to tell if this result is what they were shooting for or not.

Dec 26, 2009 Bottle. Poured black in color with a very light brown head that was fully diminishing with fair lacing. The aroma was very, very mild with a slight hint of chocolate and coffee malts and a tinge of toffee.It tasted bitter-sweet with a nice hoppy finish that lasted only a short while. Mourthfeel was light to medium bodied with a watery feel to it. Overall not much to offer but tastes OK.

Dec 17, 2009 On tap at Oldsmar Tap House (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark cola brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of roast, caramel, chocolate, coffee. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, roast, coffee, smoke, some hints of caramel and toffee. Medium body with a malty finish.

aroma roasted malts, hints of lactose/coffee, and smoked malts.
flavor, roasted malts, dry palate with hints of chocolate malts and possible smoke adding some char element.
Starts of nice but midway it yields to a bad burnt mouthfeel.

Dec 2, 2009 nice earthy aroma with a touch of soap. flavors of earth, nut and cocoa that are not at all substantial with a hint of soapy hop. touch of licorice with a bitter finish. just a hint of smoke.good training stout.
