acrdz (4249), Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2008 12oz bottle pours filtered tawny brown. Nose of apple juice malt, faint bread crust, some toast and light spices. Flavor is much the same, overall very plain and simple but at the very least it lacks any glaring defects, so it’s drinkable without being memorable. Clean, malty, a little red apple and toast in the finish, but quite simple. Simple can be good, simple can be downright delicious, but in this case simple is just simple.
jordanb (19), Virginia, USA Aug 15, 2008 This beer is slightly darker than I expected -- a reddish-orange rather than your typical golden color. Two fingers of thick white head. A bit of a wheaty, vaguely fruity aroma (peach, maybe?) but not much else. Not a bad flavor, though simultaneously metallic-tasting (coppery) and sweet. Nothing special. Heathen (492), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Aug 11, 2008 THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but lagers aren’t really one of my favorite styles. Even though I never heard of Starr Hill before visiting the brewery and buying five of their beers, they continue to impress me. This isn’t bad just nothing special. It did go down easy though.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma was light caramel malt and moderate to heavy flower and grass hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, light to moderately acidic and bitter, and sour with an average to short duration. There was a little caramel malt then lots of grassy hops and then finished sour. The light to medium body was sort of creamy with tingly carbonation and a slightly metallic finish. lemasney (253), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Aug 8, 2008 RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 51, Vienna, Lager Glass
