Starr Hill Jomo

This beer is slightly darker than I expected -- a reddish-orange rather than your typical golden color. Two fingers of thick white head. A bit of a wheaty, vaguely fruity aroma (peach, maybe?) but not much else. Not a bad flavor, though simultaneously metallic-tasting (coppery) and sweet. Nothing special.

THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but lagers aren’t really one of my favorite styles. Even though I never heard of Starr Hill before visiting the brewery and buying five of their beers, they continue to impress me. This isn’t bad just nothing special. It did go down easy though. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma was light caramel malt and moderate to heavy flower and grass hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, light to moderately acidic and bitter, and sour with an average to short duration. There was a little caramel malt then lots of grassy hops and then finished sour. The light to medium body was sort of creamy with tingly carbonation and a slightly metallic finish.

Overall: Like a well done macro. I would not seek it out again.It is not a favorite. It was well crafted. 14 out of 20.

12oz bottle. Pours hazy amber in color with off white head. Aroma sweet and malty. Taste of malt, bitter and light caramel with bitter finish.

Draft at Green Leafe tavern. Pours deep brown with nose of carameol malt, vinous fruit, fig, and cashews. Tastes of caramel malt, vinous fruit, brown sugar, and nuts.
