Commercial Description:
Extremely complex malt and oat flavor; sweet with nice chocolate and roast overtones. The addition of a healthy amount of brewers oats is detectable with a smooth, silky finish. This moderately hopped ale is a great choice for the majority of our dark beer lovers.

Black in color with an ok head. Malts, caramel, and chocolate in the smells. Taste seems off to me but is made up of malts, caramel, and some roastiness.

Black with a frothy tan head. Nice malted chocolate nutty aroma. Smooth, slick mouthfeel. Decent flavors of lightly sweet cocoa with bitter blackened malts. Has a dry finish with black malt flavors. Not too bad.

Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma of toast, wood, dark chocolate, coffee, milk and maple/brown sugar. Fairly sweet taste of dark chocolate, milk, sugar, balanced with a bit of roast coffee and wood astringency. The sweetness prevails, the way I want it to. Finishes with a coffee bean flavor, adding a slight woody ash to the aftertaste. Texture and body seem nice at first, but I think the carbonation starts off a little high, and the creaminess is low throughout. Good flavors and I like the sweet slant and the dark head (small though it may be), but I wish the palate was a bit more eventful.

Bottle.
Pours a nice black with a giant olive-brown head. Aroma is plastic chocolate and snickerdoodle cookie. Flavor is very smokey, with hints of wood, sausage, and chocolate. Nice mouthfeel. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Pours dark black with no head. Has no lacing. Smells like light roast coffee and chocolate, and wood. Tastes like cocoa, skim milk, roasted malt and has a smooth mouthfeel and pleasant bite. Good finish, that’s mild yet full flavored. The body is a little thin which is nice and just makes this more refreshing.
