AmEricanbrew (816), Left Coast, Louisiana, USA May 13, 2008 Clear copper color with a frothy tan head. Good nose is all pine and floral hops. Medium/full body. Great taste is big floral and pine hop juice with a mild caramel sweetness. Strong hop flavors here without too much bitterness. Good beer.
RollinHard (502), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 Pours burnt orange with creamy white head. Aroma is pleasant and flowery, restrained citrus, plum and brown sugar. Flavor is fairly sweet and sugary, with some toast, brown sugar and mellow grapefruit eventually working it’s way in. Also a bit flowery, but it’s lighter than the aroma. Bitter citrus finish, toast, and a bit of wood char in the aftertaste. Creamy texture and easy to drink, but it’s light for the style I’d say and that doesn’t help hide the 9%. Decent enough, but could use a lot more hops and a little more body. nhorween (483), New York, New York, USA Jul 15, 2008 22oz. Clear orange-brown pour with a white head - excellent lacing. Resiny hops up front - I get mostly simcoe - sweet smelling, barely green and grassy at all. Flavor is sweet and apricoty, not enough bitterness at all. Smooth and drinkable for 9%, but not substantial. Finish needs work. Good mouthfeel. AndrewKScott (237), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours a kind of orangish-pinkish color (seriously). Medium nose of a lovely blend of hops, taste is a great blend of citrus, pine, caramel, dough. Medium mouthfeel, but no detectable alcohol. The real star here is the flavor of the hops, not necessarily hop bitterness, just a lot of great hop flavor. This beer is delicious, and dangerously drinkable for a double IPA. nimbleprop (551), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jul 9, 2008 22oz bomber pours a slightly hazy, copper, orange with a sudsy white head that laced the glass beautifully. Aroma is very balanced mix of sweetness and citrus. Nose has cookie dough, caramel, and biscuits with grapefruits, pine, and lemon zest. Flavor was a lot more mild than I expected with plenty of sweet malts only mild citrus, lemons, flowers and oranges. Only a medium mouthfeel despite the heavy alcohol and some lasting bitterness. This would probably be a very good introduction for someone into IIPAs, it’s not overwhelming. riversideAK (1456), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle from hellbilly. Thanks man Bottled in August 2007 so it’s got a little age on it. Aroma is sweet citrus with notes of orange and lemon, but not zesty. Some caramel malts lend a juicy aspect that I can picture being pretty nice when fresh. Copper orange color with a pretty nice head and lacing. The flavor is mostly malty at this point with sweet juicy fruitiness. Hops come across as orange and sweet grapefruit juice. I thought it might have been pretty thick too, at least more so than many for the style. I would like this one again so I can try it fresh because many people seem to enjoy this one quite a bit.
