ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2008 No recollection of rating this beer with the proof being that I just bought a bottle excited that I’d finally be able to try a Steamworks brew. However, turns out I was confusing Steamworks with Bottleworks in Seattle. However, by the rating I gave it, I’m glad I did buy another bottle. Very resiny hop aroma. Reddish gold body with a yellowish, tan ring. Wonderful, sweet hop flavor. Outstanding and grossly underrated.
uhclem (116), Loveland, Colorado, USA Aug 16, 2008 I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to try this IIPA - it’s been staring at me from the cooler for ages. From the first pour to the last swallow, this is an exceptional brew.Very well balanced flavor, an opulent mouthfeel and an excellent finish swanmann (243), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Aug 12, 2008 The bottle poured solid, tawny brass color with an inch of beige-golden head floating on top. Intense bright citrus rind character dominates the aroma. The flavor is very well balanced, considering. For a IIPA, the sugars, acid, and bitterness are all very much present and at play. Deliciously drinkable. Crosling (1628), Loveland, Colorado, USA Aug 11, 2008 Dark colored Double IPA, a reddish brown with a full developed, well lasting foam. Fairly nice hops nose; oily, pine-like with spruce notes and tropical fruits, peaches and herb. Also a bit of malt as well. Flavor is well balanced, clean, nicely flavored and also has a nice finish. Fairly intense bitterness, but also hop flavors of citrus. Overall, it’s pretty nice. BREWMUSKCLES (751), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Jul 22, 2008 alcohol or i should say spirit flavor abounds and intermingles with a bitter but not overwhelming citrus and pineneedle hop character that is chiefly not overwhelming due to a very nice malt and sugar infusion that is toffee like clean and quite refreshing. a pleasant excercise of one’s tastebuds indeed! i am a union railroad employee and i can be proud of this one. caramel orange in color with a mighty beige head. a little pricey for a workers salary, thank goodness for long hours and the overtime. RollinHard (527), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 Pours burnt orange with creamy white head. Aroma is pleasant and flowery, restrained citrus, plum and brown sugar. Flavor is fairly sweet and sugary, with some toast, brown sugar and mellow grapefruit eventually working it’s way in. Also a bit flowery, but it’s lighter than the aroma. Bitter citrus finish, toast, and a bit of wood char in the aftertaste. Creamy texture and easy to drink, but it’s light for the style I’d say and that doesn’t help hide the 9%. Decent enough, but could use a lot more hops and a little more body.
