Aroma of caramel, malt and nuts, deep auburn, pours a small toffee head. Tastes of mild malt, a slight almond too. Light bodied, syrupy, bitter and dry. Average.

2008-07-24. Very dark brown body, modest tan head (3+). Modest aroma of roast caramel, and toasty malt. (6+-7) Flavour shows a surprisingly flavourful profile with lots of roast up front which fades leaving toasty malt, and sweet sugary caramel. Lingering notes of lightly burnt roast malt. Average palate. Simple, but surprisingly decent. Like I will probably actually finish the glass decent... a Steelback first! 7/3/7/3/13 3.3Bottle from new batches courtesy of GregClow.

On tap at the London Beer Festival- A deep brown that lets some light in, creating a reddish hue. Pours a half inch frothy beige cap, which recedes to a thin ring. Nose of toasty malts, cola, some vanilla. Tastes of slight sweet caramel malts, toasty, again with the cola, some fruitiness, with a mild hop presence creating a bitterness in the finish. Pretty good.

341 ml bottle from a case purchased at the beer store. pours deep red (brown) with a small tan head that rings the glass with a tan reminder of dark beer. the aroma is of dark malt sweetness, with caramel as the main component but some coffee and lager malt also make an appearance. the flavor is decent with dark malts splashing across this once pale lager doomed brew. im pretty sure that a few roasted malts were just added to the grain bill of the steelback premium lager. not bad overall and a big improvement over the old steelback

341mL bottle from the BS. NOT the format I wanted to try this in, I wanted the Tub Can, but they’re all gone now unfortunately. Ah well. Pours a dark brownish amber with a small mocha head. The aroma is sweet grainy toffee malts, much like a brown ale. Flavour is more or less the same, BUT with that trademark Steelback weirdness in the finish. I wonder if they’re still using malt extract? A little bit of a dry, roasty astringincy in the finish and aftertaste. As it warms, wet-dog seems to become a feature, as well as some salt. I guess those could be described as "off" flavours, but haha, knowing Steelback, they’re all just integral elements to the brew. All around a solid effort, if not but a little boring. I just wish I could have the OLD Steelback version of this. The weird Steelback essence of actual garbage still seems to be apparent, both in the aroma and in the flavour, which I can appreciate for its crappiness.

Tasted 1/11/09. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a dark ruby hue. Ring of cream colored head. Aromas of caramel and toast. Medium bodied with a sweet malt character. Toasty with only a slight bit of butter. Not too bad.

Pours into a lager glass a very dark red with a large tan head. Aroma of nutty malt, dog food, some toast, apples, strawberries, and brown sugar. Tastes nutty, some toast, berries, apples, and spice. Really thin. This is a beginner dark beer. Industrial and boring

Bottle courtesy of matt7215. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of tea, earth, some malty hints. Tastes of sweet malt and lightly spicy. Decent.
