Papsoe (10254), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 24, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) In my original version simply called "Abdij Steenbrugge" brewed by De Gouden Boom in Bruges. Dark, full-bodied but surprisingly dry beer. Chocolatey nose whereas the arama has more licorice. Not that far from a Westmalle Dubbel. Brewed according to an old Benedictine recipe. 140594
BoBoChamp (720), Gent, Belgium Sep 5, 2008 33cl, brew with ’gruut’, from Geers Oostakker, complex brew, not balanced, hazy, good head, nice brew Borresteijn (582), Amstelveen, Netherlands Jul 20, 2008 On tap @ Café Quibus. Clear ruby brown colour, off white head. Aroma of dark fruit, raisins, brown sugar. Taste is also brown sugar, some raisins. A bit watery, but soft taste. Nothing special. shrubber85 (2584), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle. Brown sugar malt and alcohol aroma. Dark brown color with moderate head. Charcoal, coffee, and chocolate malt flavor. Watery body. Pretty bland. thomat (580), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 9, 2008 Dark, redish brown with a thick off-white head. Lots of fruity and malty notes. Malt and some sweetness. Medium body with a balanced finish. thewolf (3956), Kolding, Denmark Jul 8, 2008 Bottle, bought @ Pivni Galleri, Prague.
Pours a beautiful, clear mahogany with a nice, staying, frothy beige-grey head. Sweet, fruity aroma, lots of prunes and plums with a touch of metal and chocolate. A bit thin mouthfeel. Flavour is rather dry and roasted, some clear metallic notes, some slight chocolate at the end. Tolerable, but not very good for its type.
